Bunge is investing US$5 million to upgrade its soybean processing plant in Italy.

According to reports, global agricultural giant Bunge has invested €4.4 million (approximately $5 million) to upgrade its soybean-processing facility in Porto Corsini, Ravenna, Italy.
A report dated July 7 stated that the upgrades include a modernized seed reception system, increased storage capacity, and expanded in-house laboratory testing capabilities.
On July 3, Bunge stated that the project was completed in June and that the renovated Porto Corsini plant is expected to be fully operational before the next harvest season.
This investment aims to double the volume of soybeans processed in Italy, while also processing soybeans from other regions and providing Italian farmers with greater opportunities for crop production.
Saverio Panico, Bunge’s Italy Regional Manager, stated: “Our investment in Porto Corsini underscores our commitment to farmers and customers across the food, feed, and fuel sectors in Italy.”
“It has strengthened our ability to source locally while integrating crops from other origins.”
The project includes the construction of new silos and a chain conveyor, as well as the addition of a rear‑side truck unloading facility adjacent to the existing side‑unloading facility.
Bunge stated that the expansion of the Porto Corsini plant will enable the company to increase its procurement of soybeans from Italy’s major agricultural regions, including Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Soybeans will be widely used for a variety of purposes, supplying both the feed and food supply chains as well as the biofuel production sector. Bunge stated that this investment also reinforces Ravenna’s role as a hub connecting local harvests with Italian and European customers. Italy is the largest soybean producer in the European Union (EU). According to EU projections, Italy is expected to harvest 848,000 tonnes of oilseeds in 2026, after having exceeded 1 million tonnes for three consecutive years.
In Italy, Bunge operates through multiple ports and offices, as well as two facilities located at Porto Corsini in Ravenna, which include a soybean processing plant that produces vegetable oil and animal feed meal, a multi‑stage oil refinery, a vegetable oil bottling plant, and a biodiesel production facility.
