Product Overview

Expanding raw seeds or pre-pressed cakes with a solvent-extraction process is an ideal production method, widely recognized and adopted by domestic and international oil producers due to its remarkable benefits—such as reduced equipment investment, increased output, and lower energy consumption. At the heart of this oilseed expansion pretreatment process lies the oilseed extrusion-expander machine. Our company’s YJPZ series of oilseed extrusion-expanders are specifically designed for high-oil-content materials. Inside the machine’s cylinder, the oilseeds undergo intense compression, heating, shearing, and kneading, thoroughly breaking down the seed cells and exposing the trapped oils. As the material exits through the die, a sudden drop in pressure causes rapid evaporation of water vapor, resulting in moderately expanded particles. This expansion process significantly enhances both solvent penetration into the oilseed cells and the efficient extraction of oil from within those cells, thereby boosting the overall efficiency of the leaching and desolventizing stages. Additionally, moderate expansion increases the bulk density of the material compared to raw seeds, which in turn boosts the processing capacity of downstream leaching equipment. Because the oilseeds spend only a brief amount of time inside the extrusion-expander, this method effectively preserves the quality of the raw material. As a result, oilseed extrusion-expanders have become an indispensable tool for vegetable oil plants seeking to boost production, cut costs, and refine product quality.

 

Puffing Principle

The raw material pellet is fed into the extruder's inlet via a screw-type quantitative feeder and then through a magnetic separation chute. Steam is introduced directly into the extruder barrel using a steam throttling valve. Meanwhile, the main screw shaft—composed of a segmented helix—rotates inside the extruder barrel, effectively mixing, compressing, heating, shearing, and kneading the material. Under high temperature and pressure conditions, the material is forced out through the die holes in the template. As the pressure drops suddenly, the moisture rapidly evaporates, causing the material to expand and puff up.

 

Structural Composition

The YJPZ series oilseed extrusion-expander main unit consists of a frame, thrust bearing housing, cylinder barrel, combined screw shafts, press cage, die plate, and a direct steam-injection system. The drive system includes a Y-series motor, small V-belt pulley, and large V-belt pulley, with the large pulley’s significant mass providing inertia that functions as a flywheel.

 

Main uses

For pre-treatment of oilseeds such as soybeans, rice bran, cottonseed, rapeseed, and corn germ, as well as for processing various pre-pressed meal prior to solvent extraction.
